a different standard
ISO 3183 – a unique, truly international standard for pipelines
Every country has its own standards. For example, in the Netherlands we have the NEN, in the United Kingdom the BS, and in Germany the DIN, to name just a few. Nowadays, standards are also being developed at the European level, the so-called EN standards, which are intended to eventually replace all those national standards.
But truly international are the ISO standards. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an organization with 163 members (countries), a headquarters in independent Switzerland, and is dedicated to one goal ... worldwide standardization of services and products, so that the same quality can be guaranteed anywhere in the world. And that they succeed in this is evident from their famous quality management standards, such as ISO 9001.
For your information ... to prevent the organization from having a different abbreviation in every language, ISO chose from the start for the designation ISO, derived from the Greek "isos", which means "equal".
However, there are many more areas than quality management for which they write standards, and one of them is a standard for steel pipes for the transport of gas over long distances and under difficult conditions, the ISO 3183. Compiled by experts from all the countries involved, who have examined all aspects, assessed what was needed, and recorded that in the standard.
Thus, not only is a tensile test in the longitudinal direction prescribed, but also – as far as possible – a tensile test in the transverse direction, perpendicular to the wall. A Z35 TTP test, to describe it technically.
And there are more requirements. Rolling defects in the material can lead to dangerous situations, so the pipes are ultrasonically tested for imperfections. With various grids and in various directions.
High demands on quality; that is why these pipes fit so well in Bumaco's program.

Hydrogeological Applications and CO₂ Transport
